Calvary Church Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates

Top

This year's Easter weekend festivities will be different than anything we as a fellowship have experienced, but we're so excited to celebrate Jesus Christ's death and resurrection with you. We hope you and your family will join us for the following events.
Make sure to check our website for all the details and most up-to-date information about these events, including important rules and regulations.

Good Friday Service
This year, we're bringing our outdoor Good Friday worship experience right to your living room. Join us online at live.calvarynm.church for our broadcast from the amphitheater on Friday, April 10, at 10:30 am, noon, or 6:30 pm as we worship with Battledrums, take Communion, and hear a gospel message from Pastor Skip. You can pick up single-serving Communion elements curbside at our Osuna, Westside, and Santa Fe campuses from 8 am to 5 pm starting Monday, April 6.
You can also stream the service on April 10 at 10:30 am, noon, or 6:30 pm on YouTube, Roku, or Apple TV. Or watch the TV broadcast at 12 pm on KRQE, My50 TV, FOX New Mexico, or New Mexico's CW.

Good Friday Blood Drive
As part of our Kindness Campaign, Vitalant will set up a much-needed blood drive on Friday, April 10, from 7:30 am to noon in the Hub at our Osuna campus. To facilitate social distancing and added safety measures, representatives from Vitalant will meet donors at the top of the stairs in the east parking lot to check temperatures before proceeding to the Hub. Children must remain in a parked car with another adult.

Easter Service Broadcast
Then join us online for our Easter service as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ together. Featuring worship with Battledrums and a hope-filled message from Pastor Skip, this service will stream on Saturday, April 11, at 6:30 pm and Sunday, April 12, at 8, 9:45, and 11:30 am at live.calvarynm.church and on YouTube, Roku, and Apple TV. The TV broadcast will air on Sunday, April 12, at 11 am on KRQE, My50 TV, FOX New Mexico, and New Mexico's CW.

Calvary Church Easter Drive-In
We're also transforming the parking lot at our Osuna campus into a drive-in theater for two services on Sunday, April 12, at 9 and 11:30 am. With video on two huge screens and audio on Star 88 (88.3 FM), we'll worship with Battledrums and hear a message from Pastor Skip from an elevated stage in the center of the parking lot.

For our staff and community's health and safety, every car must have a ticket and everyone must remain in their car for the duration of the service. No part of the Osuna campus is open to the public, including indoor and outdoor spaces. Get your free ticket today.

We continue to pray for you and your family during this time, and we ask that you join with us in praying that the Lord would be magnified this Easter as His church all over the world celebrates the glorious truth that "death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Corinthians 15:54).

God bless you,

Calvary Church

An Update from Pastor Skip: Online Services, Easter Weekend, and the Kindness Campaign

4:30 pm, March 31, 2020 Update

Calvary Church family,

It feels so strange to write these updates and communicate by video when we’ve been meeting together regularly throughout our history as a congregation. I don’t like being “socially distanced” from anyone, but it’s a present necessity. I thank God that it happened at a time when we enjoy the technological capability of transmitting a church service directly to your TV screen, computer, or smartphone.

You're probably aware that President Trump and federal authorities have extended the national social distancing guidelines to April 30. However, we at Calvary Church are not slowing down. In fact, we’re working harder than ever to discover and deliver fresh ways to bring God’s love and truth to people in our community and across the nation in this tenuous environment. We’re creating websites, producing fresh content daily, and supplying the most vulnerable in our congregation with much-needed supplies.

I continue to believe that now is not the time to pull back on ministry. In the month ahead, we'll continue to cultivate our vibrant online community as we gather exclusively online for all regularly scheduled services. As for Easter weekend, in addition to streaming our services online, we are very excited to broadcast Good Friday and Easter Sunday services on TV throughout New Mexico.

Through April 30, the entire Calvary Church staff will continue to work hard—some from home and some on campus—as we devote ourselves to our Kindness Campaign. We are committed to serving our fellowship by making personal phone calls to every household in our church. And we're serving our community by collecting and distributing practical items to those in need. What an incredible opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus, especially when so many believers can't physically be present to serve others.

I want to remind you that we continue to have operating expenses as we support our staff who is wholly devoted to our current ministry efforts, including online midweek and weekend services, weekday online programming, Connect Groups and watch parties, our Kindness Campaign, and more. When you give today, you're helping us meet our financial responsibilities and continue to create opportunities for life change even in the midst of a pandemic.

Thank you so much for your flexibility. Lenya and I continue to pray for you and your families.

In His strong love,

Skip Heitzig

A Note From Pastor Skip

11:30 am, March 23, 2020 Update

Calvary Church family,

This past week, we shared how Calvary Church is reaching out to our community through the Kindness Campaign. Now we want to tell you how you can help:

We believe that now is not the time to pull back on ministry. This pandemic presents an incredible opportunity for each one of us to be the hands and feet of Jesus—especially during a time when many of us can't physically be present to serve and bless others.

On top of this, we at Calvary Church still have operating expenses and are supporting a staff who is working at full force. When you give today, you are helping us meet those financial responsibilities and create further life change for the kingdom.

Thank you so much for your generosity. It is making an eternal impact, and we can't do this without you.

We continue to pray for you and your family.

In His strong love,

Skip Heitzig

A Note From Pastor Skip

3:00 pm, March 20, 2020 Update

Calvary Church family,

I'll be honest: I thought recovering from a back surgery and a couple of brain surgeries was all I would have to worry about in the first few months of 2020. But, as you're well aware, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has upended life as we know it.

Many people are feeling anxious, scared, and alone right now—and you might be one of them. Let me direct your heart to the promise Jesus made in John 14: "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (v. 27). It's my hope that no matter what you're feeling or seeing around you in the world right now, you would choose to put your trust firmly in Christ and His promises.

If you're looking for some biblical reading material during this time, I encourage you to look up my five-day devo Standing Firm in Unsettling Times on the YouVersion Bible app. I pray it's a blessing to you.

And as we all do our part to follow guidelines from local and federal authorities, I invite you and your family to join us for all regularly scheduled service times for our Calvary Church at Home experience. We're also offering an online worship experience for kids, also during regularly scheduled service times. Visit calvarynm.church/athome for all the information. It's vital that we continue to meet as a church family—even if virtually—to pray, worship, give to the Lord's work, and study the Word together.

In addition, we want to let you know that we are here for you. It goes without saying that this season presents an extraordinary opportunity for the church to demonstrate the love of Christ—whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually—to those in need. We're taking advantage of this opportunity and asking you to join us in what we're calling the Kindness Campaign. Here's more:

What a privilege we have as God's people to spread kindness in the midst of chaos. Jesus doesn't promise us a worry-free life, but He does promise us perfect peace when we set our minds on Him and trust in Him (see Isaiah 26:3). I'm praying that you would anchor yourself to that truth during this time and that together we would see God move mightily in this church, this nation, and the world for the furthering of the gospel.

Remember: the power of a pandemic is nothing compared to the power of God. We love you and are praying for you.

In His strong love,

Skip Heitzig

Stay Home, Stay Healthy, and Watch Calvary Church Services Online.

6:00 pm, March 16, 2020 Update

Calvary Church family,

Pastor Skip Heitzig and the leadership team at Calvary Church are prayerfully responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Today, along with church leaders from across the country, Pastor Skip participated in an hour-long phone call with the White House. President Trump, the CDC, and the Coronavirus Task Force strongly urge that we avoid gathering in groups of more than ten people for the next fifteen days. They affirmed that they prefer to overreact and find out we didn't need to, rather than to underreact and wish they had done more.

We want to ensure that our congregation remains safe and healthy and able to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of people who are vulnerable. For the next fifteen days, we will be having our weekly worship experiences in a different way, but they will be just as Spirit-led and Spirit-filled.

Here's more from Pastor Skip:

It is our earnest desire that you will gather together in small groups across our city to pray, worship, and receive biblical teaching through the Calvary Church livestream experience. All regularly scheduled services will be broadcast at live.calvarynm.church, including Wednesdays at 6:30 pm, Saturdays at 6:30 pm, and Sundays at 8, 9:45, and 11:30 am.

During services, you can engage in live chat with Calvary Church pastors, submit prayer requests with a quick click or tap, and let us know how we can help you with your next step in growing in your relationship with Jesus and with people. We think you'll agree that this is a unique opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to experience life change—maybe even right in your own living room.

And please continue to give during this tenuous time as God continues to work through our church and ministries to serve Him, our congregation, and our community. To give online securely, tap or click Give at live.calvarynm.church, calvarynm.church, or in our mobile app. You can also text GIVE to 77977.

Finally, join us in consistent prayer for leaders and healthcare professionals across the globe who are working to understand and contain the virus and care for those who are sick and vulnerable.

Weekly Ministry Events and Activities Update

  • Life Track at all our campuses is postponed until we resume on-campus weekly ministry events and activities.
  • Connect Groups will proceed as scheduled, giving deference to leaders and hosts to determine if they will meet. We urge that gatherings do not exceed ten people through March 30.

Dear Calvary Church family,

Coronavirus (COVID-19) UpdateWe want to express our gratitude for your patience, proactivity, and prayer as we navigate a rapidly changing ministry environment.

As of now, we are planning to hold all regularly scheduled services at all our church campuses. However, we recommend congregants who've just returned from Israel or any other international travel, as well as those who, according to the CDC, are at high risk such as older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease, to self-quarantine and refrain from joining us in person for worship services.

We invite you to join our online community at live.calvarynm.church for our worship experience.

Additionally, ministry leadership will communicate details to all people affected by the decisions that are outlined below. Please allow time for leaders to provide those details and implications to these changes (e.g., SPCTRM will provide weekly content via their online community by streaming weekly messages and providing small-group content, etc.). We believe that these are measured and responsible steps in light of such a dynamic situation; however, there can be further changes depending on national and state developments. Please be assured that your leadership aims to keep you informed at every step.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." —2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Please pray for God to redeem this crisis as He works through this for His glory and the greatest good, believing He will accomplish great demonstrations of His love and provisions for all.

In His strong love,

Calvary Church

2:30 pm, March 13, 2020 Update

To our Calvary Church family,

Coronavirus (COVID-19) UpdateIt’s never too early to take the right steps. While we as a church family have always cared about one another’s spiritual health, we’re concerned about one another’s physical health as well—especially with the news surrounding Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are intent on being as proactive as possible to create safe and clean environments for us to worship in. As we continue to gather for weekly corporate worship experiences at all our campuses, you can be confident that these are the steps we’re taking to prevent the spread of germs:

  • All common areas are regularly cleaned and disinfected, especially our Calvary Kids spaces, using hospital grade cleaners to dust and disinfect handles, restrooms, tables, chairs, etc. Extra measures we’ve implemented are an increase to our cleaning schedule and scope as well as the use of an electrostatic sprayer in order to increase surface area cleaning covering harder to reach areas with greater effectiveness and efficiency.
  • We’ve increased the amount of facial tissue available at each campus.
  • Hand sanitizer is available throughout each campus.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Greet one another with a smile and a simple “hello.”
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds, about how long it takes to sing the ABCs.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (at least 60 percent alcohol) if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover your nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing.
  • Limit contact with those who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • If you or your children are under the weather, stay home and enjoy our online worship experience at calvarynm.church on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00, 9:45, and 11:30 am.
  • Be understanding and supportive when others need to stay home.

Again, at this time we will continue to gather for all regularly scheduled weekly services at all Calvary Church campuses. We encourage you to pray for the parts of the world that have been hit particularly hard by this virus, and that God would lead researchers to find a treatment for it as soon as possible.

We love you and we’re praying for you.

In His strong love,
Skip Heitzig
