John has been a Christian since 1979 and a member of Calvary Albuquerque since 1991. John was raised in Tijeras, NM, and first began mission work in China in 1991 on a short-term mission trip. In 1993, he returned to China for two years as a full-time missionary. Sarah was born and raised in the People’s Republic of China and became a Christian in 1991. She and John met and married in China in 1995. That same year, they returned to Albuquerque and began attending both Calvary Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Chinese Christian Church. From the beginning of their marriage, they knew God wanted them to live and share the good news in China. They returned to China in 2001 for full-time ministry.
John is teaching conversational English at a university. It is the Burns’ desire to see students give their lives to Christ and then share their faith with others. In addition to working with university students and young adults, John teaches and Sarah translates life education lectures to university students. The subjects range from stress and time management to understanding yourself and why true love waits. These subjects are constructed upon Christian principles with the hope it will lead students into a search for the true meaning of life.
Outside of their university work, John and Sarah are serving at an international English fellowship. John has been leading international English fellowship mission teams to ASEAN countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, etc. Sarah is supervising a seekers class at the international fellowship that is seeing lots of people coming to Christ. More and more Chinese are coming to Christ at the international English fellowship and internationals are rededicating their lives to Christ.
