Carlos was raised in Juarez, Mexico, until he was sixteen, when his family relocated to Santa Fe in 1978. He graduated from high school with honors and went on to study at New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico. Sylvia is a native of Santa Fe and received the Lord in 1985. Carlos and Sylvia married in July of 1987, and they began attending Calvary Chapel de Santa Fe that year. In 1998, they began attending Calvary Albuquerque.
The Lord led Carlos and Sylvia back to the neighborhood in Juarez where Carlos grew up, and they began a ministry called Amigo Fiel (Faithful Friend). This ministry includes a multipurpose facility, Casa Amigo Fiel, which is home to a church, an after-school program, a playground, and a community storeroom for food and clothing distribution.
Carlos oversees all church programs and teaches every other weekend. The facility offers young neighborhood children an after-school program, including a hot lunch, a Bible study, and a safe place to play. Sylvia takes the lead with the women and directs the children's ministry. She also oversees the collection and distribution of clothing and food to families in the neighborhood.
The Garcias also host short-term mission teams from various churches. This base contains the Garcias' home and a building that has dormitories for sixty short-term team members, a dining hall, and a kitchen. Carlos is also the Mexico logistics coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse since April of 2005. To support this missionary.
