Calvary Learns to Resist the Heat of Temptation

As Summer Heat continued on Wednesday, July 27, we enjoyed food from the Supper Truck and dessert from Menchie's Frozen Yogurt at Summer Refresh in the amphitheater. Spectrum Student Ministries served grilled burgers, and kids and adults alike had a great time on the jousting soft toy. Service began with dynamic worship by Battledrums, and in the message "The Heat of Temptation," Nate Heitzig taught that a little compromise now can mean a big compromise later. As we studied Matthew 3-4, we learned that Jesus faced temptation just like we do, and He showed us it is possible to resist it.

"Victory over temptation comes from being constantly prepared for temptation," he said.

Nate reminded us that for every lie from Satan, we find truth in Jesus—and the only way to combat Satan's twisting of the Scripture is to know what the Scripture actually says.

Calvary Gets a Blast from the Past at Weekend Services

Calvary Albuquerque had a #TBT—throwback Thursday—as we continued our series Hashtag at our weekend services, July 23-24. The stage in the main sanctuary was set up to look like the stage from many years ago, and the bulletin was designed to look like one from 1995. We enjoyed traditional worship songs with Battledrums, as they were joined by former worship leader Chet Evans. Steve Reimann gave the service announcements, and in the message "#TBT," Pastor Skip taught that the past often looks much better than it really was, probably because it isn't here anymore. As we studied Deuteronomy 8:1-10, Skip challenged us to learn from the past and use those lessons as we look forward to the future.
