At Easter Service, Many Proclaim Jesus is Alive

Thousands attended Calvary Albuquerque's Easter Sunrise Service at University Stadium on Sunday, April 20, making it New Mexico's largest church service. As the sun rose over the Sandia Mountains, the Battle Drums Worship team kicked off the morning with pre-service worship, leading everyone in praise to the Lord while people poured into the stadium. Pastor Nate Heitzig opened the service and welcomed everyone before Natalie Wylie delivered a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. We were pleased to welcome Dex from the radio show The Buck & Dex Show, who led us in prayer for the morning's service. After that, guest musicians For King & Country took the stage and filled the brisk morning air with pounding drums, leading us in more time of worship.

Pastor Skip Heitzig then delivered a message called "Say It Loud: He's Alive!" from Psalm 22:31. He pointed out that this psalm begins with the anguish and humiliation of the cross but progresses to the accomplishment of the cross. We learned that after Jesus rose from the dead, the message of Jesus' resurrection only grew louder from the apostles. Pastor Skip exhorted us to navigate our lives by the resurrection of Jesus, and he shared four things that should play out in our lives: we are invited to come to Jesus, see (investigate) the Christian faith, go into the world, and tell others how Jesus changed our lives. He reminded us that we have the best news, so we should say it loud: Jesus is alive! After the message, many came forward to proclaim their belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and to receive Him as their personal Lord and Savior.

On Good Friday, Believers Remember Christ's Sacrifice

On April 18, thousands of believers gathered for the Good Friday Communion Service in the amphitheater at Calvary Albuquerque to remember Christ's great sacrifice for us. With hands raised, the voices of God's people filled the skies in praise of our King as the Battle Drums team led us in song. While we worshiped, Pastor Nate Heitzig shared a spoken word poem as he painted a cross red to symbolize Christ's blood that was spilled for our sins. Pastor Skip then taught the message "Forsaken," explaining the separation from God that Christ endured for us. As we read Psalm 22, we learned how Jesus' crucifixion fulfilled this passage of Scripture about death and suffering. Pastor Skip called us to look at the cross and see the depth of our sin, the height of God's love, the width of our salvation, and the length God will go to bring us to Himself. After the message, many responded to Pastor Skip's invitation to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

SkateMinistry Relaunches with High Energy

The MIX welcomed new and familiar faces to its first SkateMinistry event of the year on Tuesday, April 15. After months of being closed for remodeling, The MIX opened its doors to over thirty students to skate, play games, have fun, and hang out. During the night, Pastor Caleb Chavez gave a rundown of what Skate Ministry is and how it plays into Calvary Albuquerque as an outreach ministry to youth, especially to skaters. Caleb added the reason for the remodeling was to create a more dynamic youth center that would draw in more young people from the community. He shared a teaching from Matthew 28:18-20, encouraging the students to be involved in discipleship. The night concluded with a preview of upcoming summer events, more skating, and fellowship.
