This Weekend at Calvary

We hope you will join us on Saturday, July 2, at Isotopes Park for our Freedom Celebration! The gates open at 4 pm, so come enjoy concessions from food vendors and inflatables for the kids. Battledrums Worship will kick off the evening, followed by a high-energy concert with Hawk Nelson. Pastor Skip will give a message about true freedom, and the evening will culminate with a rocking show with for KING & COUNTRY, complete with an orchestrated fireworks display.

But that's not all! Join us on Sunday, July 3, at any of our three campuses as we continue our series Hashtag. Some people use filters for everything because they desire more than what the camera lens can capture. But God's creation doesn't need any filters. In fact, His creation tells the story of His existence and power. In the message "#nofilter," Skip shows us that God has also given us the unfiltered truth of Scripture.

Just a reminder: the services on Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3, at 8 am at Calvary Albuquerque are canceled.

Calvary Learns to Rise Through the Heat

We enjoyed wave two of Summer Heat on Wednesday, June 29. At Summer Refresh, we fellowshipped in the amphitheater before service and enjoyed specialty pizza from Irrational Pie and cold shaved ice from Kona Ice. Spectrum Student Ministries served grilled burgers, and the kids enjoyed a fun ladder challenge soft toy. We had the opportunity to purchase Summer Heat hats and custom shirts. Service opened with high-energy worship by Battledrums, and in his message "Rise Through the Heat," Pastor Nate Heitzig taught that the heat of peer pressure can turn us into entirely different people if we let it affect us.

"Peer pressure is an incredible thing," he said. "Peer pressure will cause you to do things that you never would, go places you never should, and say things you that you never could."

As we studied Daniel 3, Nate taught that our response to peer pressure will determine our legacy just as it did for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, whose legacy is that they did not melt in the face of peer pressure, but stood up for what they knew was right in God's eyes.

Calvary Begins New Series: Hashtag

Calvary Albuquerque launched our new series, Hashtag, June 25-26. Our choir joined Battledrums for uplifting worship, and Nate Heitzig read some of our social media posts containing #LOL from this past week. In his message "#LOL," Pastor Skip Heitzig taught that sometimes appearances can be deceptive and sorrow often hides behind a happy face. In the fast-paced, social media culture we live in, we rarely think of the choices we make until it's too late.

"The worst end and the worst and saddest grief is an eternity separated from God in hell," Skip said. "And yet that is exactly what people do not and will not deal with—and they should, because one day there will be an end."

He challenged us to take the hashtag LOL and reconstitute it into our own acronym: live on lastingly, and focus on the certainty of our eternal life. After the message, Skip invited those who were unsure about their eternity to accept Jesus' gift of salvation, and we rejoiced as many prayed to join the family of Christ.
