Calvary Begins New Series: Hashtag

Calvary Albuquerque launched our new series, Hashtag, June 25-26. Our choir joined Battledrums for uplifting worship, and Nate Heitzig read some of our social media posts containing #LOL from this past week. In his message "#LOL," Pastor Skip Heitzig taught that sometimes appearances can be deceptive and sorrow often hides behind a happy face. In the fast-paced, social media culture we live in, we rarely think of the choices we make until it's too late.

"The worst end and the worst and saddest grief is an eternity separated from God in hell," Skip said. "And yet that is exactly what people do not and will not deal with—and they should, because one day there will be an end."

He challenged us to take the hashtag LOL and reconstitute it into our own acronym: live on lastingly, and focus on the certainty of our eternal life. After the message, Skip invited those who were unsure about their eternity to accept Jesus' gift of salvation, and we rejoiced as many prayed to join the family of Christ.

Calvary Launches Summer Heat with Nate Heitzig

Calvary Albuquerque kicked off our new midweek series, Summer Heat, on June 22. Before the service, we enjoyed Summer Refresh in the amphitheater with tacos, burritos, and sweet potato fries from the Supper Truck. Spectrum Student Ministries served fresh-grilled burgers, and we had a chance to cool off with sweet treats like paletas and ice cream tacos from Pop Fizz. The kids had a blast on the soft toy obstacle course, and we had the opportunity to purchase custom Summer Heat t-shirts and hats.

Summer Heat began with high-energy worship from Battledrums, and Pastor Nate Heitzig taught that the heat of life can either melt us or make us. In his message "Summer Heat" from Psalm 23, he acknowledged that everyone experiences hardships, but the way in which we handle the heat of life is what defines our legacy.

"When the heat gets turned up in your life…what choice do you make?" he asked. "Do you melt under its force or do you rise to the occasion and be strengthened by it?"

Nate taught that even though it may feel like God will forsake us, He will never let us down. In the heat of life, we learn lessons of compassion that can only be learned there, and we can use them to help others who are going through the same thing.

After the message, Nate invited anyone who wanted to surrender their life to Jesus to come forward, and we rejoiced as many people made decisions to walk through the heat of life with Christ as their Savior.
