she Ladies Are Renewed at Unwavering Hope Spring Retreat

The ladies of she Ministries enjoyed rest, reflection, and renewal at their 2016 spring retreat, Unwavering Hope, in beautiful Glorieta, New Mexico, April 22-24. The women experienced a fun, nautical-themed weekend while learning how to trust Jesus. Shannon Quintana led inspiring worship, and her mom, Joy Welsh, taught the ladies to hold fast and have unwavering hope in Christ. In between teaching sessions with Joy and fun activities, the ladies participated in impactful workshops that taught them to renew their spirit, increase their faith, and stand firm and have confidence in God. After the Saturday evening session, the ladies enjoyed a Spirit-filled afterglow and worshiped the Lord together. They made s'mores by the campfire, relaxed in the game room, and contributed to the secret sister wall. This weekend was filled with laughter and fun, worship and teaching, and friendship-building fellowship.

Calvary Welcomes and Celebrates Visitors during Welcome Week

We celebrated Welcome Week at our weekend services, April 23-24, and our midweek service on April 27. On Saturday and Sunday, we enjoyed dynamic worship with indie band Citizens & Saints. Pastor Skip continued our series What's Next? with the message "Heaven on Earth," sharing about what we can expect during Christ's millennial reign on earth. We were excited to welcome many people into the family of God, and after the services, attendees enjoyed coffee and cocoa with Calvary pastors and deacons in the amphitheater.

Then on Sunday afternoon, we hosted a VIP Party for those who visited Calvary for the first time this year. They enjoyed grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, and visited with ministry leaders and pastors. The children (and even some of the pastors) had a blast playing on the soft toys.

We continued Welcome Week at our midweek service with uplifting worship with Battledrums, and Pastor Skip talked with Amor Sierra, owner of Miami Tattoo Co., a shop that specializes in covering and removing tattoos on human trafficking victims. Then Skip continued our Expound series in the gospel of John, teaching that the church is not a society of perfect people, but a society of redeemed people. He shared that Jesus seeks after the hearts of unbelievers, and after the message, many more chose to surrender their lives to Jesus.

Calvary Albuquerque Continues Expound Midweek Series in John

We continued our Expound Bible study with an eventful and worshipful service on April 20. Before diving into God's Word, we were excited to welcome Calvary Nob Hill's Battledrums team for a time of high-energy, dynamic worship. Pastor Skip Heitzig then welcomed Josh and Emily Bowers to share about Cross and Anchor Church, their upcoming church plant in England. Josh explained that he and Emily felt called to go into a dark place to share the message of Christ, and he shared that there are 14 million people in the greater London area—over 90 percent of whom do not know Jesus.

"Our vision for our church is to see a spiritual awakening in the heart of London that reaches the city and influences the world," he said.

After Pastor Skip led the congregation in prayer for the couple, he continued our study in the gospel of John. He taught that many people were interested in who Jesus was and what He was doing because of the signs and miracles He performed and not because they believed in His mission. Skip explained Jesus wanted to save all people, and He already did the hard part: He bled, suffered, and died on the cross for the sins of the world.

"God does not want to condemn people, He wants to save people," he said. "He wants to save you. He loves you."

After the message, Skip invited those who did not have a relationship with Christ to accept Him into their hearts, and we celebrated with those who made that commitment.
