Renovate Welcomes Guest Musician and Launches New Series

Matt Baird of the band Spoken played a free show after the Renovate college-age service on Thursday, August 21. With another school year beginning, Renovate welcomed students back from their summer break, kicking off the night with worship and a song by Matt Baird before a meet-and-greet time. Then Renovate pastor Mat Pirolo launched the new series, Tilt Shift, a study through Colossians. He shared the message "All of Life with Jesus in Focus" from Colossians 1:1-2, explaining how this epistle is like an email to believers. As he expounded on Paul's greeting to the believers in Colosse, Mat showed how Christ was constantly at the forefront of Paul's thoughts and the center of his life. Mat encouraged the students to have that same focus and to display Christ at their schools, workplaces, and homes. After the teaching, Matt Baird played a longer acoustic set and stayed afterward to meet the students.

Students Kick Off School Year at Block Party

Over the weekend of August 16-17, hundreds of students packed the park at Calvary Albuquerque for the Spectrum and Velocity Back-to-School Block Party. With dozens of new kids in attendance, the students focused their hearts on God during a refreshing time of worship before hearing from God's Word. Jesse Lusko, pastor of Spectrum High School Ministry, delivered a short message from Matthew 11:16-20. He shared how Jesus spent a lot of His time with the sick, poor, and outcasts. Jesse encouraged the students to be friends of sinners without becoming sinful. He also explained how people rejected Jesus in His day because of this, and he cautioned them to be careful not to do the same. Jesse then invited the young people to place their faith in Jesus, and over the weekend, more than twenty students made decisions to live for Christ. They spent their remaining time together playing in soft toys and enjoying a cookout.
