Does your spiritual life seem a little bland? Learn to cherish moments with Jesus with this month's Connection resource. You will receive four booklets by Lenya Heitzig that give practical tools to help you resist temptation, face your trials with joy, forgive when you don't feel like it, and refrain from using your words to hurt. You will also receive Lenya's book Live Tastefully: Savoring Encounters with Jesus, a ten-week study that examines the meals Jesus shared with a wide range of people—emphasizing hospitality and cultivating God-given spiritual and physical hunger. Each lesson includes a recipe to encourage you to live tastefully—just the way God intended.

This Weekend at Calvary

We invite you to join us this weekend as Pastor Skip begins our new series called Crash & Burn. The Bible is brutally honest—it doesn't flatter its heroes or gloss over its villains. In this series, we'll learn how to fly by looking at the lives of those who fell. As Skip shares the message "The Cosmic Crash; The Eternal Burn," he explains that the first "fall" was the worst, making way for every fall thereafter.

Mat Pirolo Encourages Us to Let God Use Our Chaos

We welcomed Mat Pirolo, an assistant pastor at Calvary, as our guest speaker on Wednesday, September 28. After an uplifting time of worship with Battledrums, Mat shared his message "God Can Use Your Chaos" from Acts 8:1-8. He taught that after Steven was martyred, chaos ensued as Saul of Tarsus began persecuting the church. Mat pointed out that even though this chaos and persecution could've destroyed the church, the church grew and the gospel spread to more places. He encouraged us to let God use our chaos for His purposes, so that we become more like Jesus.

Share Jesus' Love through an OCC Shoebox

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God's love through the power of simple shoebox gifts. Bring Christmas joy and the love of Jesus to children around the world by partnering with Franklin Graham and Samaritan's Purse in Operation Christmas Child. We are currently distributing shoeboxes to those interested in filling them with age-appropriate toys for children throughout the world.

Pick up your shoebox in the foyer at Calvary Albuquerque or grab one of your own, and fill it with small toys, toiletries, school supplies, and other recommended items. Please remember to donate $7 or more to help cover the shipping and other project costs. If you choose to donate that $7 online, you will also have the opportunity to follow your box to its destination. Please bring your filled shoeboxes to the foyer at Calvary Albuquerque during National Collection Week, November 14-21.

Believers Celebrate New Life at September Baptism

On Sunday, September 25, we celebrated with those who decided to go public with their faith through baptism. Pastor Mat Pirolo explained the significance of baptism to those in attendance, and it was a joyous occasion as men, women, and children publicly identified themselves with Christ and His death, burial, and resurrection.

Calvary Welcomes Guest Speaker Dr. Erwin Lutzer

We were excited to welcome Dr. Erwin Lutzer as our guest speaker at our weekend services, September 24-25. After worship with Battledrums, Dr. Lutzer gave us the history of the Reformation and showed the results and relevance of Martin Luther's life and witness. In the message "Rescuing the Gospel: The Story and the Relevance of the Reformation," Dr. Lutzer taught that Martin Luther helped bring the Bible to everyday people and made it possible to have a different approach to Christianity by focusing on the essentials. Dr. Lutzer challenged us to, like Luther, fight the Enemy with the Word of God.

Dr. Lutzer also taught a special message on Sunday evening called "Rescuing the Gospel in America," giving us some insight on how to remain faithful to Christ in an age of compromise.
