The Light Has Come
John 1:9
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
I love early mornings when sunlight first comes up over the eastern sky. But if you've ever had the experience of the sun suddenly shining into your eyes, it's not so pleasant. Most people wince when light is shined in their eyes. Jesus is presented here as being "the light of men" and "shining in darkness." But the world cries out, "Turn off that light!" How can Jesus enlighten your life and how will you respond to Him?

It's Darkest Just Before Dawn!
Matthew 4:13-17
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
A well-worn adage from the 1600s declares that it's always the darkest just before the dawn. Christmas is a celebration of light: Lights are strung everywhere both indoors and out. If you've ever wondered why, it's because Jesus, the light of the world, pierced the darkness of our world, making it possible for us to see clearly enough to escape one world and move into the next.

A Baby in an Old Man's Arms
Luke 2:25-35
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
To speak about a gruesome death seems out of place at Christmas time, doesn't it? Why would we take Communion (the elements that speak of Jesus' death) at a time we should be celebrating Jesus' birth? An old man answers that question for us: Simeon of Jerusalem takes the baby Jesus in his arms and tells us the rest of the Christmas story.

Maximum Impact
1 Peter 2:11-12
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
How can Christ-followers make the most meaningful impact on the unbelieving world? That was in Peter's mind when he wrote this letter to scattered believers facing hostility from their neighbors. Four principles that transcend time stand out here; these will encourage us and empower us as we seek to influence our world for Christ and leave a lasting impression.

Christmas in Black and White
BibleIsland Hallelujah Island Singers
Info
Message Summary
BibleIsland Hallelujah Island Singers (H.I.S. Choir) offered a fresh view of the meaning of Christmas in their performance Christmas in Black and White on Wednesday, December 4. Pastor Skip introduced BibleIsland director Roxie Sharp and explained the reason for the special evening. With big smiles and joyful hearts, children sang songs about the true reason for Christmas: to celebrate Jesus. They also performed a skit that presented the truth of Jesus Christ, that He has called us out of darkness into light—it's as clear as black and white.

God sought to deliver Lot and his family from the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah, but Lot's wife looked back, disobeying the Lord. Franklin Graham teaches from a passage in Luke 17 and reminds us that God will judge all sin, but we don't have to receive this judgment. Because of His compassionate love, the Lord made a way for us to be redeemed?through His Son, Jesus.

This Old House
1 Peter 2:4-10
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
God has been building His "house" since He first made the world. This is not a physical home nor a temple of worship as much as an assembly of peoples whom He has gathered to Himself. The stones He chooses are human beings in relationship to Christ, the cornerstone foundation. Let's consider God's site-plan for this construction project today.

As we study Numbers 6-7, we see some of the ways that God's chosen people separated themselves to the Lord and worshiped Him. As the body of Christ, we must also remember that the Lord should be the center of our lives and that our worship to Him is about giving rather than getting.

Got Milk?
1 Peter 2:1-3
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Babies need milk to survive and to thrive. And newborn babies need and crave it a lot. So too, those who have been spiritually born-again need spiritual milk so that they can grow and be mature. As believers grow, they will begin to enjoy more solid spiritual food. But here Peter is addressing our appetites?those things we desire and crave. He gives us a three-part instruction that will curb and train our appetites in such a way that maximum growth will be achieved.

Rock Solid Love
1 Peter 1:22-2:3
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Peter's love for his Friend and Lord, Jesus Christ, was at one time on shaky ground when he denied that he even knew Jesus. His love would even get questioned by Christ later on (John 21:15-17). But now Peter knows that love for Christ and love for His people is all part of the same package. A relationship with God includes an affection for God's people. Four components of a rock-solid love are given by the very man who learned what true love is.

Where You Fit in God's Plan
1 Peter 1:18-21
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
God's plan always involves people, and you are one of those people. God's plan includes you. Just think of it. God had you in mind when He put His plan together for the whole world. So where do you fit in that plan? When did this plan have its beginning? How much did this plan cost, and what is your part in it? Today we make that discovery by noting five vital truths:

Everyone wants to be happy, but not everyone is happy. We know that the world's idea of happiness is broken, because nothing from the world can satisfy us. But God wants us to have lasting joy. Message Summary
The book of Numbers describes the wanderings of the nation of Israel in the wilderness. Because of their disobedience, what could've been an 11-day journey to the Promised Land turned into a 40-year trial. In this study, we see the reason for the book's title: the censuses in chapters 1 and 26. As we examine the list in chapter one, we learn about God's personal and caring nature.

How to Walk in the Dark
1 Peter 1:13-18
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Holiness is an uncomfortable subject for most believers. We have no problem assigning holiness to God as we sing, “You Are Holy, Oh Lord!” But our minds get muddled when we think of our own holiness because we don’t want to appear holier than thou. So what does it mean to be holy? And how can we live holy lives around unholy people? In short, how can we be “children of light” (Ephesians 5:8) while walking in a dark world?

A Portrait of Jesus
Luke 4:16-22
Jarrett Petero
Info
Message Summary
Out of all the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus, He chose only one from the prophet Isaiah to share with the people in Nazareth—one that revealed His character. As we study this portrait of Jesus in Luke 4, we also learn about the power that dwelt inside Him: the power of the Holy Spirit, which now dwells in us.

Message Summary
The resurrection of Christ is the greatest miracle in all of history; it was central in the apostle's teachings. They wanted everyone to know that Jesus conquered death! As we wrap up our study in Mark, we learn about the evidence for the resurrection. But it's not enough to just have the facts. Our lives are a witness and testimony to the people around us, so we must allow these truths to transform our lives.

Our Bedrock Salvation
1 Peter 1:10-12
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
God has always planned on saving you. You were never an afterthought or a last-minute consideration. Not only have you been chosen before time began (1 Peter 1:2), but throughout the ages your salvation has been expected and planned for. The spokesmen of the Old Testament wrote about Jesus’ coming and the new covenant of grace, which you are now a part of. All this makes our salvation more secure than ever, built on the bedrock of His promises.

Message Summary
The early church leaders drew an interesting comparison between the sacrifice of Jesus and the near-sacrifice of Abraham's son, Isaac. We know God stopped Isaac's sacrifice, but He allowed Jesus to die on the cross. He acted as Judge: giving Jesus what we deserved and giving us what Jesus deserved. As we continue this study in Mark 15, we are reminded to keep Christ's sacrifice for us fresh in our memories.

Rock Solid Relationship or Relationship on the Rocks?
1 Peter 1:8-9
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Why do we insist that having a relationship with God is not the same as being a religious person? How is a relationship with Him even possible, since He is GOD and thus is unique from all other creatures? Today, the answer to that will be made simple as we consider the simplest components of any relationship, including a relationship with God.
