I Dare You: Fight!
Daniel 10
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Fighting is never fun, but it's sometimes necessary. Certainly that's the case with the Christian life: It's not a playground but a battleground. Spiritual warfare (the cosmic battle between forces of good and evil) is a reality that none can escape but few really understand. For Daniel, the curtain is pulled back and he is allowed to see past the natural world into the supernatural world. Let's get a firsthand briefing on a heavenly battle that has earthly repercussions.

Message Summary
The feeding of the 4,000 in Mark 8 is a miracle we don't often consider, but through this miracle, Jesus demonstrated that His love isn't just for the Jewish nation but for anyone who will receive Him. And, through the Pharisees' refusal to see Jesus' authority and the man Jesus healed from blindness, we get a valuable lesson in faith. We also learn that we should seek God first in all of life's matters and are reminded that when we fail to remember God's mercies, our hearts begin to harden.

Info
Message Summary
The Jewish scribes had such great reverence for God's Word that it was of the utmost importance to preserve the Scriptures accurately. They took great measures—memorizing 4,000 laws before they could begin to write—to ensure it would be copied, pronounced, and interpreted precisely. Josh McDowell presents to us one of the rarest scrolls in the world, called the Lodz Torah Scroll, showing us that God will always provide the means for His sacred Word to be available to His church.

Ephesians 5:15-17

Info
Message Summary
What is the will of God? It can seem so elusive, but in this study, we learn five things that are the clear will of God for each of us. As children of God, as a church body, let's make a pact to preach to the lost, to be set apart for Jesus Christ, to be humble, to be submissive and honoring to the people around us, and to be thankful in all things. Taught in Ocean Grove, NJ.

Message Summary
No matter what we do, we cannot get to Heaven based on our own merit. Jesus came to earth to offer His life as a sacrifice so we could be reconciled to God and fellowship with Him. In this study, we see Jesus demonstrate His amazing love by seeking outsiders to bring into His covenant. We're reminded that God alone can satisfy us, and He offers His salvation as a gift, but first we must receive it.

What Kids See in Their Dads
Luke 8:40-56
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Jairus' daughter saw three things in her dad: a father who was unashamed to seek Jesus, a father who brought Jesus home, and a father who expressed love for her. Fathers are encouraged to have a personal relationship with Jesus, to bring Him into the home, and to allow their children to see that relationship in practice.

In this study, we learn that obedience to God's Word does not always equal smooth sailing. Yet, the Pharisees were more concerned with being ceremonially pure than morally upright. We must remember that God is first concerned with our inward attitudes before our outward actions.

I Dare You: Pray! - Part 2
Daniel 9:4-19
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Just as a square has four sides and is incomplete without all four sides, so too does effective prayer. Daniel leaves us with a great example (and a simple one at that). Though we can pray anywhere and anytime, these four elements form a great baseline for us to emulate. When you talk to God, make certain the signal is clear, your heart is pure, and your confidence is sure.

Message Summary
Jesus made His disciples apostles by sending them out to deliver His message. That message was heard by Herod, whose worldly sorrow led to death—the death of John the Baptist. When Jesus invited His messengers to go with Him to a quiet place and rest, they discovered a multitude of people in need of compassion and teaching, like sheep without a shepherd. As believers, we too are called to become apostles—careful to share the gospel with those in need.

I Dare You: Pray!
Daniel 9:1-5
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
I have never met a person who's regretted praying too much. I've met plenty who've regretted praying too little. Prayer is the one activity that everybody knows they need, but few actually do. It's preached often, but practiced seldom. Forgive me if I'm dispensing guilt—that's not my intention. I'd rather take a peek into the busy life of an ancient executive (Daniel), and see the role prayer played for him and, in so doing, get fired up about this most powerful of activities!

God is not a prisoner to the laws of nature—He is God of the extraordinary. The miracles Jesus and his disciples performed validate who Jesus is and they reveal the heart of God. In this study, we learn to face life's difficulties, while remembering that God is good. Both faith and unbelief are powerful—and they carry eternal consequences.

I Dare You: Be Shocked!
Daniel 8:8-27
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
When was the last time you heard someone respond to an incident or piece of information by saying, “That’s shocking!”? Shock (emotional disgust, offense, and aversion) has been diminished due to a widespread exposure to facts and images. Things get too easily relegated to a file in our brains marked, “I’ve already heard this before.” It’s a sad day (and dangerous) when we become spiritually desensitized to God’s truth and the world’s pain.

Jesus has compassion on everyone who is lost and entangled with the enemy of God, Satan. From this study of Jesus’ encounter with a demon-possessed man, we learn that while Satan desires to rob us of joy and see us condemned to eternal judgment, Jesus has ultimate power and has already defeated this enemy.

A Mother’s Influence
K.P. Yohannan
Info
Message Summary
As we celebrate Mother's Day with the wives, daughters, sisters, and mothers all around us, K. P. Yohannan paints a portrait of his mother and the influence that she had, both in her family and in India. We catch just a tiny glimpse of a country with 62 million child laborers suffering on the streets and millions of mothers who have never heard of our Jesus to whom they can take their children. K. P.'s mother would say, "Our greatest privilege is to love people."

The World's Most Important Comma
Isaiah 61:2
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
In Isaiah 61:2 we discover a tiny comma. This comma represents a 2,000-year period of time: the age of grace that we are currently living in. It is during this time that we have been saved; it's the church age, and world-wide evangelism is taking place. But we are just one day away from the end of that comma. One day that comma will become a period. At the end of that comma comes the rapture of the church and then the day of vengeance of our God on this earth.

Mark 4
Mark 4
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
"To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God" (Mark 4:11). One of the ways that Jesus taught was through parables. On many occasions, Jesus shared a story of something familiar—farming or shepherding, for instance—in order to reveal truths that were previously unknown. These were stories with a message. Jesus wanted to teach the people spiritual things; He did it by showing them physical things. The power of a good, well-told story drives the truth home so that it can be applied in the life of the hearer.

I Dare You: Be Great!
Daniel 8:1-8 & 8:20-22
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
The New York Life Review posted this: "Great men have but a few hours to be 'great.' Like the rest of us, they must dress, bathe, and eat. And, being human, they must make visits to the dentist, doctor, and barber and have conferences with their wives about domestic matters. What makes men great is their ability to decide what is important, and then focus their attention on that." (I think that goes for great women too!) Let's compare three men who some consider to be great, and then see how we measure up.

Jesus Christ is the rightful King who possesses ultimate authority. His authority is one of compassion before custom. In this text, Jesus heals and cares for people in ways that are in direct opposition to the rules and customs of the Jewish culture. Through His words and actions, He elevates the importance of relationships and compassion over religious traditions.

I Dare You: Look Ahead!
Daniel 7:9-14 & 7:26-27
Skip Heitzig
Info
Message Summary
Economists, meteorologists, visionaries, and psychics all share one thing in common: They all try to predict the future to announce what's coming. God's prophets never had to; God revealed it to them and they simply wrote it down or spoke it out. The central highlight of Daniel's vision in chapter 7 isn't the coming kingdoms of earthly men nor of the coming Antichrist but rather the coming of Jesus Christ. Let's look ahead and see what's coming.

Message Summary
Jesus Christ, the selfless Servant, is not "willing that any should perish" (2 Peter 3:9). He came in the flesh and touched contagious, sick, and demon-possessed people—He healed them and He forgave their sins. He ate with tax collectors and sinners—the ones that needed to be saved. The Pharisees scorned Him for that. But He didn't mind, because He didn't come to pour new life into an old system, He came to bring something brand new.
